Jersey City, New Jersey - December 18, 2006 - Quantum Genomics Corp. (QGC), a global biotechnology company seeking to transform the discoveries and developments of academic research into breakthrough treatments for human disease, announced today that it has appointed Fabrice Balavoine as Head of Research.
“Fabrice’s experience in medical research and his international track record are an ideal match for QGC’s goals,” said Lionel Ségard, president and CEO of QGC. “With this experience, he will help accelerate QGC’s progress through the development stages of our therapeutic products.”
QGC aims to develop innovative products in human healthcare in therapeutic areas where there are still unmet needs. The company has now built up a team of core competences and will announce its first collaborations in 2007.
Balavoine will be responsible for managing the partnerships with research labs and for converting research results into the development phase. He will also play a part in the chemical, production and monitoring aspects of products in preclinical development.

Prior to joining QGC, Balavoine, 36, was head of drug development at drug discovery company Cerep. Previously, he was project leader at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie in Paris (ENSCP) and at HarvardMedical School (Boston, USA). He spent part of his career at France’s Nuclear Energy Agency (CEA – Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique) where he directed several projects in the fields of radiolabelled molecules and structural biology. He has a doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Paris Sud XI, and a diploma from ESPCI (Ecole Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielle).
